The demand for the radio frequency spectrum is growing rapidly these days, however, the radio frequency spectrum is a finite resource. Spread spectrum (SS) modulation makes it possible to share the same frequency band without causing a noticeable degree of the interference. In frequency hopping (FH) system which is one of the basic types of SS system, the interference can be avoided by allocating different frequency to each user at any given time. Further, FH signals can hop in frequency over a much wider bandwidth than that occupied by direct sequence (DS) signals with the same pseudo-random number (PN) generator clock rate, and FH systems require the shortest time for PN code acquisition among SS techniques. The inherent diversity in fast FH systems can provide some protection against multiple access (MA) interference, additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN), fading, and jamming. Therefore there have been many investigations that improve the performance of a fast frequency-hopped/multilevel frequency shift keying (FFH/MFSK) systems.
