Modern communication technologys startling progress and widely spread personal
portable communication terminals have made it possible to provide very high capacity data services such as voice, message and image through wireless communication channels. The communication consumers request various service types, high data rate and high quality of services. To satisfy the consumers demands, service provider should use wider frequency band than todays frequency band and it becomes general trend to use high radio frequency for providing wideband communication services. However, usable radio frequency is limited and it is very difficult to provide all kinds of services within the allocated frequency band. Therefore, it is required to investigate the methods of utilizing the limited frequency bands efficiently. Adaptive MODEM schemes are considered one of the solutions to electively use the channel capacity. Basically, adaptive MODEM schemes are designed to provide various data rates corresponding to the wireless channel conditions where the transmitted signals are severely distorted by the fading channel. This means that we can transmit more high-rate data by employing an adaptive scheme than the conventional method without requiring more bandwidth.
