Title Hybrid Key Scheme for Secure Data Transmission with the LEACH Protocol in Wireless Sensor Networks

In this thesis, we proposed the hybrid key scheme for secure data transmission with the LEACH protocol in WSNs. The hybrid key scheme is composed of two parts: a symmetric key scheme for inside-the-cluster and a public key scheme for outside-the-cluster. Furthermore, the hybrid key scheme uses both symmetric and public key schemes in order to take advantage of the rapid calculation times of the symmetric key scheme and the high security strength of the public key scheme. The simulation results show that when we use the hybrid key scheme, network lifetime decreases by about 10% compared with the LEACH protocol, and by about 5% compared with the LEACH protocol with the symmetric key scheme. Furthermore, the hybrid key scheme provides 50% stronger network security strength than that of the symmetric key scheme.
